Naxos without a car

Yes — and that is rare in the Cyclades. Buses from Chora run frequently along the west coast, and a good part of the island works without ever holding a steering wheel. Here is where, and where that stops being true.

The sand strip, on foot

Agios Prokopios, Agia Anna and Plaka form one continuous strip of sand. You walk from one to the next, no transport needed. Buses from Chora serve them frequently: this is the stretch of the island where a car adds nothing.

Chora is entirely walkable

The old town, the Venetian Kastro and the Portara sit minutes apart. Agios Georgios, the town beach, is a walk from the harbour.

Inland is another matter

Buses do climb to Filoti and Chalki, but inland services are sparse. Check the time of the last bus back before you set off, not once you are there. It is the one serious constraint on doing Naxos car-free.
